Welcome to BACUPS
BACUPS is an acronym for Building A Culture of Unifying Psychosocial Safety.
BAC UPS is an integrated and innovative program that successfully builds a proactive, positive psychosocial safety culture of shared expectations and standards, where psychosocial health, wellbeing and safety are business priorities, drivers of business outcomes that support systems, teams and individuals to be safer and healthier to sustain productivity and performance, built one conversation at a time.
In simple terms it is creating a shared culture of health and safety for you and your people to give their best and navigate the challenges and inevitable struggles of the current business context and adapting to keep performing their jobs and duties well.
No longer a 'could have'- BACUPS is a 'must have'
Changes to WHS /OHS regulations and codes mean that the obligations and duties for psychosocial risk management are mandatory.
The BAC UPS program includes key notes, workshops, tools, resources, coaching and data gathering and baseline/benchmark reporting that are evidence based, use best practice methods and are energising, positive, supportive and practical so you meet compliance and build a culture of health and performance.
BACUPS service can be utilised individually – i.e workshops alone, or in any combination to help meet your scope, scale and timing needs and expectations, and for efficiency and speed of impacts.

- Understand and prevent burning out and supporting people to bounce back and learn to thrive
Why is BACUPS needed?
New international standards (ISO 45003) and the updated Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and approved Code of Practice (the Code) for ‘managing (the risk of) psychosocial hazards at work’ has been implemented across Australia under the OHS & WHS Acts. It reinforced that the prevention and risk mitigation obligations for all staff, leaders and the organisation are the same for both physical and psychosocial injuries.
This comes on the back of post Covid and increasing demands of global and economic uncertainty, placing strain on resources and people like never before. All the psychosocial hazards and their management require an environment that is psychologically safe, where all staff, managers and leaders can and do speak up, listen well and know who to go to and how to help.
The number of serious claims for compensation for mental health conditions is rising. In 12 months, there were 11700 claims, with the median lost time of work being 34.2 weeks, and the median compensation paid more than $58000. This represents a staggering impact for individuals, their families and communities and for the business and customers.
Human resource impacts-
Levels of disengagement (Gallup), physical injuries (cardiovascular etc), psychological and stress injuries (depression, anxiety, suicide etc) (Safe Work Aust) and burnout are at record highs and rising (Australian Human Resource Institute AHRI).
Financial / legal impacts-
Mental health-related workers’ compensation claims will double before 2030, and the median compensation cost for these claims will triple (CEDA). Workcover premiums are skyrocketing, costing the Australian economy around $70 billion every year (Productivity Commission). Non-compliance may lead to fines, penalties and prison.
Productivity impacts-
Performance issues, staff turnover (AHRI) and reputational risks (damage to brand, loss of social licence to operate, decreased opportunity to attract and retain staff, low staff morale).
